Early Start Denver Model
Kindred Kids Early Intervention utilises the world renowned Early Start Denver Model (ESDM), as a framework for our transdisciplinary Early Intervention program.
ESDM is an internationally acclaimed, evidence-based approach designed to enhance the development, communication, play and social skills of Autistic children.

This therapeutic method integrates the principles of play with developmental and social learning strategies, focusing on embedding intervention within natural, everyday interactions and activities.
By harnessing the motivational aspects of a child's environment and interests, ESDM encourages engagement, communication, and social connectivity. The approach is highly individualised, aiming to address the unique strengths and challenges of each child, fostering skill acquisition in a supportive and nurturing manner.

"There’s something very special about strategies such as ESDM, because they are incorporated into the child’s routine, the things the child is already doing. The intervention is embedded so deeply in everyday activities that often observers will say, ‘They just look like they’re playing.’"
What Researchers are Saying

Dr Giacomo Vivanti
Olga Tennison Autism Reasearch Centre
LaTrobe University
"...those receiving ESDM showed significantly higher gains in language and cognition... At the beginning of the program, only 40% percent of the children in the ESDM program had language – after 12 months, the proportion of verbal children was 90%

Dr Geraldine Dawson (et al)
Duke Centre for Autism and Brain Development
Duke University
“Randomised controlled trials have demonstrated that toddlers receiving ESDM intervention show remarkable gains in IQ, adaptive behaviour, and communication skills, outpacing children who receive standard care.”

About Our Journey
Kindred Kids was founded in 2021 by Sam Gourley, Paediatric Occupational Therapist and Buderim local who is passionate about therapeutic supports for Autistic children. Sam recognised that world renowned best-practice in Autism therapy was comprehensive Early Intervention approaches (such as ESDM), and that Australia had fallen behind other countries in bringing these approaches to our communities in an accessible way. With the dream of incorporating early intervention services into mainstream early learning settings one day, Sam continues on this journey to improve access to comprehensive early intervention for children on the Sunshine Coast.
