Q: What is Bridge to Brisbane?
Erin: It’s a race in Brisbane that’s 10 kms long. This race, in particular, had heaps of fundraising options while I was signing up, most races have 1 or 2, and I liked that I am getting to support one for autism. This year the race is on 15 October, so I'll be training and fund-raising until then!
Q: Why did you choose ASPECT?
Erin: I’ve worked with many families over the years that have children that attend ASPECT. Whenever I’ve gone to their schools to support the child, the staff have all been lovely, and I can see what a unique and beautiful environment it is for the autistic children I work with. “School Can’t” is a huge thing in mainstream schools; autistic kids have more difficulty coping in the mainstream environment which makes going and continuing to go to school really difficult. I think that, if it’s right for the child, ASPECT should be an option for all autistic kids, and we can only do that if there are more ASPECT places
Q: Why are you raising funds?
Erin: I’ve always wanted to be a part of more fund raising or volunteering. This is going to be my physical and metaphorical bridge into fundraising! I want to support a cause that I believe in while educating others about the clients I have. I also wanted to connect my work with something that I’m passionate about… another bridge if you will!
Q: Why do you work with autistic kids?
Erin: To be honest, I lucked into this field! I was in art before I got into supporting families with autistic children. It was supposed to be a job that I did while I figured out what I wanted to do next, but it grew into this beautiful career instead. I can honestly say that I love and have loved working with every client I’ve had.
